30 in THREE

We were excited to sponsor the Chicago Characters Project for Chicago Design Week. 30 posters about 30 characters (people and companies) that are a part of Chicago's design history — using 30 characters of an extended alphabet (some punctuation was added). Each poster was created by one of the city’s most prominent designers. To promote Yorke to those who participated, we engaged Pagliuco Design Company to come up with a concept that would extol the capabilities of our new digital press used for the project, The J. The promotion would be included atop each designer’s sample package. However, to emphatically drive home The J's variable printing capability, PDC's solution was not a single design. They proposed creating 30 unique posters featuring the first letter of the designer’s name and transforming each designer’s poster into a new creative expression. What’s that, you say? We had the same reaction. The ambitious solution would allow us to present a distinctly personal and singular message to each individual but there was one major issue – time. Three days, to be exact. It would be a monumental request of the design and production teams. We essentially created the most challenging project for ourselves that would push to the limit what printing on The J is all about – short runs, fast turnaround, vibrant color, superb coverage, large format, variable data, sheet consistency, and the very highest in print quality. 30 posters in three days. Take a look at how it came out. Chicago, you’ve been J’d.
